The following paintings were created by our very creative students, with the theme of Light, for an art competition last year. What talent!
Phagwa or Holi, also known as the Festival of Colour, was celebrated this year with a number of memorable activities, including the application of coloured powder, putting up elaborate paper-cut decorations, and making and flying colourful hand-crafted kites. Students also enjoyed learning traditional Indian dance and singing Phagwa songs on the day.
Our talented students of Form 3 and 4 demonstrated the Mehendi artform today by applying beautiful designs on the hands of some members of staff, while other students tried it out for the first time on paper.
This week, Form 1 students created a comic strip telling the story of the discovery of one of the earliest dated artworks in History. The Lascaux cave paintings were created by Stone Age Man 17,000 years ago! Amazing! Students in Form Two created some excellent models to represent the Fatel Razack ship and items used by the Indentured East Indian Labourers such as barracks (living accommodations) and bull cart (for transportation of sugar cane), as well as various tools and kitchen utensils, many of which are still used today. The Form 1 students created an array of wonderful printed designs by stamping with natural materials such as leaves, flowers and vegetables. Our students applied poster paint to brown paper to create these eye-catching symmetrical patterns. These gorgeous designs would look great on fabric!
The Form Two students worked in groups to create model cakes illustrating Regular, Alternating and Progressive Rhythm on the first, second and third layers, respectively. They also designed the entire cake with Unity in mind, so that all parts of the cake would work well together, visually. Each group used a different theme for their cake. The results were quite impressive, as I'm sure you'll agree. For the last month, the Form Three students have been working diligently on successfully creating imaginative and eye-catching pinatas. They were all made using simple materials such as flour, water, newspaper, balloons, glue and kite paper. As you can see, the finished projects have been quite stunning. Each student must be commended for their hard work and beautiful results!
This past week, our artists tried their hand at creating small sculpted forms using soap. Students experimented with subtractive methods such as etching, gouging, carving and cutting in order to form the objects. Earlier this year, the students of Form 2 worked in groups to create imaginative and visually stunning models of cakes. These multi-layered cakes were constructed using materials such as paper, sponge, fabric, modelling clay etc. Each cake was designed to illustrate the Principle of Design: Rhythm. The top, middle and bottom layers showed Regular, Alternating and Progressive Rhythm, respectively. Students used a wide variety of themes as inspiration, resulting in some really unique and creative solutions. |
